On the weekend of September 10 and 11 I helped WICEN with the Rally SA event. WICEN provide communications and timing assistance for the rally. After a last minute change to the roster due to weather impacting the race schedule I ended up doing 2 stages – both at the start of the course. One was Saturday morning and the other a Sunday. As Saturday was my very first time out with WICEN I had help from Barry VK5KBJ, a veteran of the Rally. On Sunday I was on my lonesome, but managed to survive. It was a very well run event from the WICEN point of view. It is clear that a significant amount of work goes on by Charlie VK5KDK and the team at WICEN to get things planned and organised. The comms net control system runs very well and takes the pressure off the people in the field. Some snaps of the event below.
